Generation Z seems somewhat elusive to marketers. Their zany memes and other things that make total sense to them make no sense to people trying to make advertisements to appeal to them. Their young age also adds to the complications, as the general range for Generation Z starts around 1997 and ends around 2015, making the oldest Generation Z members in their early 20s, with the youngest still being in the single digits. For this reason, it’s foolish to try to think of all Generation Z members as being the same. However, there are a few marketing tactics that work well for most Generation Z members.
Use Social Media
Generation Z spends a lot of their time using social media. So, there is hardly a better place to put your advertisements! However, Generation Z don’t always use the same social media websites as older generations. For example, many Generation Z members don’t use Facebook. Instead, this generation tends to prefer Instagram, Tik Tok (and other video websites), and Snapchat. What do these sites and apps have in common? They use videos and quick pictures to get their message across.
Make Video Advertisements
First off, let it be noted that video advertisements for Generation Z is not the same thing as commercials for older generations. When making advertisements for younger generations, try to keep things light-hearted, funny, and (most importantly) short and to the point. After all, the last thing you want is to lose their attention. You can do this by using bright colors and popular music. Whatever you do, don’t try to capitalize on the latest memes, as this will seem more like a ploy to your audience. Also, memes change often, so it’s hard to keep up.
Hire Influencers
Social media influences, mostly famous on Instagram and Tik Tok, are people who have a lot of followers on their favorite social media sites. On these platforms, influencers will often post entertaining videos and great pictures. Every so often, influencers also advertise products (for the right price). So, one think marketers can do is hire a social media influencer to advertise their product or service. The more popular the influencer, the higher their rates are likely to be. Of course, the more popular the influencer, the more people who will see your product.
If you want to be able to market to Generation Z, make sure to recognize that they are individuals. Don’t pander to them. Instead, hire people around their age (like influencers) to help.
